Roll-out of the Global Burden of Animal Diseases programme

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the University of Liverpool are leading the roll-out of the Global Burden of Animal Diseases (GBADs) programme, aiming to generate robust assessments of the impact of livestock on food security, disease risks, and climate change. More information about the GBADs programme is available via https://animalhealthmetrics.org.

Under the umbrella of the GBADs programme, the Human Health theme will seek to improve our understanding of the global disease burden of foodborne and zoonotic diseases. Through close collaboration with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), its activities will seek to improve and leverage foodborne and zoonotic disease burden estimates within the Global Burden of Disease Study. The Human Health theme is jointly lead by David Pigott (IHME) and Brecht Devleesschauwer (Sciensano).

The roll-out of the GBADs programme is documented in a Lancet comment: https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(21)00189-6.
