[Webinar] Knowledge translation in burden of disease studies

Wednesday 14 May 2025, 10h-11h30 CET

About the webinar

This webinar focuses on knowledge translation in burden of disease studies, examining how complex health data can be effectively communicated to inform policy and practice. The webinar will be introduced by a theoretical overview of knowledge translation, as well as insights into the Australian stakeholders interviews. In addition, different case countries will present their use of knowledge translation in burden of disease studies (i.e. Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands).

Speakers

Aline Anton

Dr Aline Anton is a researcher at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Germany, where she coordinates international projects on burden of disease (BoD) and supports the German BoD study. She holds a PhD in molecular biology from RKI, with a focus on influenza viruses, and has a background in science communication and knowledge translation.

Since rejoining RKI in 2018, she has worked on national and international BoD projects. In 2024, she led a study in Australia exploring how BoD data is used and communicated to inform public health decisions.

Aline Scohy

Aline Scohy is a researcher in the Health Indicators Unit at Sciensano, the Belgian Institute for Health. She contributes to the Belgian National Burden of Disease Study and leads the development of the Health Status Report for Belgium, a flagship publication that brings together key health data and engages a wide range of stakeholders across the country. With a Master's degree in Demography, Aline brings strong expertise in mortality statistics and causes of death, supporting evidence-based public health policy and monitoring.

Henk Hilderink

Dr. Henk Hilderink is a leading expert in public health foresight at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands. With a background in mathematics and a PhD in demography, Hilderink specialises in developing integrated population and health scenarios to inform policy decisions. He has led key projects, including the Public Health Foresight Studies (VTV) and the COVID-19 foresight initiatives.

Henk is also an active member of international networks, including the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and the Robert Koch Institute’s Advisory Board for Public Health Monitoring and Health Reporting. His work focuses on health modelling, burden of disease analysis, and evidence-based policy advice to improve public health resilience.
